Having grown weary and uninspired by the era of ‘fast-fashion’ and mass production, style connoisseurs are bucking the trend by seeking out one-of-a-kind, artistically-driven designs. As a native New Yorker, boutique owner and style innovator, Patricia Field has worked closely for years with a whose-who of creative visionaries. From iconic artists of decades past like Keith Haring and Basquiat (who sold painted t-shirts in her famous 8th Street shop) to burgeoning talents of today like Scooter LaForge, art has always played an integral role in her world.
Scooter LaForge is a full-time artist living in New York City. Last year, he was featured in shows at the Leslie-Lohman Museum in New York, the Friedrichsho f Museum in Vienna, and the Spiritmuseum/Absolut Art Collection in Sweden.
Forbes magazine wrote he has found “a new art medium in clothing.” To that effect, LaForge was commissioned to contribute to a Patricia Field art/fashion retail installation within Commes des Garçons founder Rei Kawakubo’s Dover Street Market concept store.
Iris Barbee Bonner found her voice as a free spirited abstract artist while studying graphic design at Arcadia University. She began to use her passion for art and her desire to illustrate her feminine wilds as the inspiration for her brand THESEPINKLIPS.
A contrast to her mild-mannered persona THESEPINKLIPS is a fusion of vibrancy and explicit sexuality, a brand without boundaries and a true exposition of artistic freedom. Recently Iris designed and painted clothing for Amber Rose, Blaq Chyna and their crew outfits for the 2015 MTV VMA awards.
Painting on cloths was born out of Morlock’s love of recycling and reinventing garments and objects. “It is a mashup of two ideas,” she says. “Take something old and make it new. Paint, stitch, knit, embellish and JUST PLAY.
Morlock is on the cusp of a new era of reinvention, catering to a new demand for one of-a-kind custom fashion “art” pieces. “Each of my garments are selected by me for the craftsmanship, design and are purchased through thrifting.
Jody Morlock has been a successful artist in her own right for many years. Showing and selling her art through Comerford Collection, Clic Gallery, ABC-REGENERATION, and Silas Marder Gallery, to name a few.
Suzan Pitt is an internationally acclaimed artist whose paintings and animated films have been exhibited in shows around the globe, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, and is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and many others.
Her work is known for its vibrant original psycho-sexual conceptual underpinnings.
“I think of them as animated objects whose images can dart in and out of doorways, cross streets, ride in cars and stand at bars late into the night. I never know which one I will paint next. Each coat comes out as a new statement: each one a unique artwork”. – Suzan Pitt
